What IS Climate Chasing?

Beach Walking at Sunset

You hear people constantly talking about their overseas travels, sharing their adventures around the world and experiencing new cultures. This is NOT at all a bad thing! I want to explore the world and all of it’s beauty as well, don’t get me wrong.

Something that I have realized growing up is that I’ve seen a lot more of my own country than most of the people I grew up with, but I still don’t think it’s enough! For those of you out there stumbling across this blog who don’t know, yes I am in the U.S. I have also lived in three states so far, ranging from the North Mid-West (Minnesota), down to sunny Florida and right now in North Carolina.

To get back on point – have ya’ll SEEN the size of the United States?! I mean it’s massive, and the reach is huge! You can’t tell me that you aren’t the least bit curious to explore this country, there’s no possible way there is one person in existence who has explored the entirety of the U.S.

Well that’s what we plan to TRY and accomplish! I honestly have loved moving around. I’ve gotten to see and experience so much just by moving and traveling within the States. I make it a point – actually – to leave my current state at least twice a year, and leave the country once a year. I have achieved this feat since 2016 now!

Climate Chasers.

The best thing about the U.S. is the vastness; there are so many different climates within this one country it’s borderline unreal. We plan to live in every single one. Most people find this bizarre, but on the whole, I have never even traveled over to the West Coast! Minus my girls trip to Vegas, which is the furthest West now I have ever been.

There’s something so fulfilling when it comes to trying new things, meeting new people, seeing new sights. We moved to the coast of North Carolina just a few months ago with a plan to be here for at least the next two years before we officially head out West, and no I don’t mean California. We plan on making our first stop Washington State

Why Not Internationally?

I am truly fascinated by the fact that there is a place where it literally rains nonstop. We are calling this little adventure of ours Climate Chasing, because that’s exactly what we are doing! Chasing climates within the U.S. to ultimately decide where we want to be. The majority of the time this ends up being the other way around, where people just stay where they are and occasionally travel, but it always seems to be internationally.

Like I said, I’m so excited to travel more internationally, but to be able to move and travel to see what our own country has to offer is pretty exciting! Ultimately we know that we won’t like every climate we live in, so far we have LOVED being within 10 minutes of the beach here on the coast of NC. It’s way too hard to judge new places if you are there for a quick trip, and don’t get to experience everything it has to offer.

Rocks in the Ocean

It may seem crazy to most, but it’s an adventure worth taking! Our full cycle for each climate, we plan on being a year or two in each. It will really depend on how we LIKE it after our 6-9 month “trial period,” as we have so eloquently dubbed it.

So, in short we are climate chasing! It’s not like we’re packing up and hitting the road every few months, BUT that’s not our goal. I think the best part before any kind of travel is the planning process, although this first location wasn’t really planned; it has helped us define what is important to us, how we want our future to look and where we want to go.

Journey, Not Destination.

It’s always the journey that counts more than the destination, and I’m honestly super stoked to be freezing cold up in the Olympic Peninsula! If you want to get a look at the places we’ve chosen on our list, subscribe to our Traveling List
